Random Ramblings

I've been working alone on this project for awhile now, and I've actually learned a great deal during its development. I'm not referring to the construction of this mod, but rather to the response that it receives.

I've determined through various forums, email, and website analysis, that the number of individuals that are actually interested in this project is really very small. The number of people that provide any opinions or input, is even smaller. And then there are those who feel that working on such an old engine is simply a waste of time and effort.

The support and encouragement that I've received has always given me the incentive to carry on with this project, and I've always appreciated any opinions that are offered. However the majority of people that visit this site do seem to prefer to remain silent, and to me that silence has always felt like some kind of disapproval or indifference.

I do wonder at times whether all of this is even worth the considerable time and effort I'm putting into it. If the actual number of interested people is really as small as I believe it is, then I do have to question the value of this project. If a Blood 3 game were announced tomorrow would all interest in this project disappear completely?

Even though I've always been determined to see this project through to completion, lately that determination seems to be fading. Maybe I'm just tired, and one of the drawbacks to working on your own is that there's no one to pick up the slack when fatigue sets in. Unfortunately everything then comes to a grinding stop.

But perhaps things will pick up again in time, once I take a break from all of this.

After all there's still zombies in need of brains....

I know how you feel. I'm working for a big French modding website and we don't have a lot of commentaries on our news but we try not to think about it and carry the work.

Don't lose hope dude, tell yourself that there will always be somebody to play your mod.

Kurt,

We have discussed this before, you cant take people's silence as disapproval. If your site is getting hits, then people are interested. It's not your fault that 100's upon 100's of mods get announced but never finished (just go over to MODDB to see the examples) so people are usually skeptical. There are tons of other mods where I do exactly the same as people here do, watch quietly until something gets released.

Well, it is for sure misleading to consider silence as indifference or disapproval. Check out if people come back. In that case it is for sure of interest.

On the other hand it is still a project, you will see the real interest when it will be released. As for now people as me just check out for updates, waiting patiently to work to be done without being asking every day something like "when will it be released?" Which is quite irritating, in my opinion.

I'm sure that once it will be released you will see thousands of download, and many thanks from several people addicted to Blood...

Thanks, Buti. I have looked into all of this and I've come to realize that the Blood community is actually much smaller then I thought, with only 28% of visitors returning.

Those thousands of people that you mention are more like hundreds, actually. Does such a limited number of people justify all of this work and effort? I don't really have an answer to that question.

Its good to hear that there are some interested people though, because the numbers for this site and the ModDB site, tell me a different story. Hopefully though this project will continue eventually, despite the low numbers and limited input.

Man, just give us an S.O.S. signal if you ever feel in need of something.

I know little about programming languages, but I can offer ideas or little solutions to seemingly-massive problems.

at least i can cook stuff.

so don't give up.

Let me offer my official encouragement. The original Blood is the one game I most regret no longer being able to play (due to modern hardware incompatibility and the ridiculous source code fiasco). Anyway, B2 was a great followup, and I'd play your mod the minute you released it... if B2 will run on Vista. My mint-condition installation CD is only two feet to my right.

I know you have real emotional ties to the LithTech engine, so my one suggestion might sound like a sacrilege (and a lot of extra work): your fan/support base would greatly increase if you ported the mod to either the Source or Unreal engine.

While looking in my old CD-boxes, during a household-cleaning-session, i found my blood2 CD.
Since having problems to install it proper on XP, i was looking for some patch or so.
But now i found your projekt und i can´t wait for the relase.
You are doing a great job!!!
